Most people, given that moment, would reach straight for the obvious things — more money, an easier life, a problem solved, an enemy dealt with. And there is nothing wrong with need. But these passages reveal that what YOU ask for first — the thing YOU value most when YOU could have anything — determines what God is able to add to YOUR life. Ask for the wrong thing, and YOU get only that. Ask for the right thing, and everything else comes with it.
Someone was once given exactly that: an open invitation to ask God for anything.
He was young, newly stepping into a responsibility far bigger than he felt ready for. And when God said, in effect, ask what you want, he did not reach for the obvious. He did not ask for wealth, or long life, or the defeat of his enemies, or honor. He asked for one thing that surprised everyone — the one thing he knew he could not lead without.
Here is what most people miss.
The request itself moved the heart of God. Because of what he asked for — and, just as importantly, because of what he did not ask for — he was told he would receive exactly what he requested. But it did not stop there. God added to him the very things he had not asked for: the wealth, the honor, the standing, all of it thrown in on top of the one thing he actually sought. The right request did not cost him the other things. It unlocked them.
And here is the part that puts this within YOUR reach.
The same thing he asked for is offered to YOU freely. Scripture says plainly that if YOU lack this one thing, YOU can simply ask God for it, and He gives it generously to anyone who asks, without holding it against them. It is not reserved for kings. It is not earned by performance. It is given to the one who values it enough to ask — and God is a rewarder of everyone who diligently seeks
