Are my promises reliable? Moments that Matter, Christian Questions
What’s in a promise, a simple commitment between people? While the New Testament is nearly silent on the matter, the Old Testament focuses on larger and sacred commitments like covenants and vows. These give us a solid basis for commitment to the big things in life but what about the little things?
In a recent podcast we observed that Jesus never once spoke about everyday promises. Instead, he taught us a concise and honorable statement to live by as part of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus simply said, let your yes be yes and your no be no. No flowery language, no swearing on someone’s grave or on some respected symbol. Say what we mean and mean what we say.

Jesus taught us that our words as disciples of Christ are held to a clear standard of excellence. This standard is modeled not only after Jesus, but after God Himself. Our challenge? Grow daily and steadily into a person who can be recognized as trustworthy, simply because of who they are.
How do we do this and what can we learn from Jesus' words? For the answers to these questions and supporting scriptures listen to the full podcast: https://christianquestions.com/character/1288-promises/
