After his resurrection, what did Jesus teach us about fishing? CQ Moments that Matter
In John 21 we learn about Jesus’ third post resurrection appearance to a group of his apostles. Jesus used a familiar setting — the Sea of Galilee — to reshape their understanding of their calling. These men had gone back to fishing while waiting for further direction from Jesus. After a night of fishing failure, Jesus stepped up with purpose by providing a miraculous catch.
This miraculous catch was a deliberate echo of an earlier moment — another empty night, another unexpected instruction, another overwhelming catch from three years earlier. Placing these two fishing events side-by-side, shows us a picture of their journey with Jesus. The earlier miracle had been a call to follow. This one was a call to lead.
Jesus was showing them that their future work would require obedience even when the instructions seemed unusual, trust even when the results were unseen, and courage even when the task felt too large to carry.
