Afraid to Start Over? A Prayer for Hope After a Hard Season

Things finally begin to calm down, and instead of enjoying the moment, your mind whispers:

What if something goes wrong again?

What if the other shoe drops?

What if I let myself hope and get hurt again?

Tonight's Your Nightly Prayer is for the person learning how to hope again.

Tonight's Scripture

“See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.” — Isaiah 42:9

Isaiah 42 reminds us that our confidence about the future isn't rooted in knowing exactly what will happen next.

It is rooted in who God is.

God is faithful.

He is steady and unchanging.

His compassion is new every morning.

He delights in mercy.

Maybe you're entering a new chapter after heartbreak, loss, disappointment, failure, or another season you never want to repeat.

You may still carry memories from what happened.

Your mind may still replay the past.

Your body may still react as though another painful moment is around the corner.

But your past doesn't get to tell you everything about your future.

God does.

This doesn't mean nothing difficult will ever happen again.

It means whatever happens next, you will meet it with the same faithful God who carried you through what came before.

Tonight, instead of waiting for the other shoe to drop, ask God to help hope take root again.
