A Prayer of Gratitude for the Gift of Seasons | Your Daily Prayer

Tonight, the moon will appear.

Daylight will fade.

Another evening will begin.

And slowly, almost imperceptibly, one season will become another.

Psalm 104 celebrates the extraordinary order and beauty God has woven throughout creation:

“He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down.” — Psalm 104:19

In today's Your Daily Prayer, written and read by Lia Girard, we're invited to notice something we can easily take for granted:

God is sustaining an entire creation we could never control ourselves.

The sun.

The moon.

The oceans.

The mountains.

The forests.

Morning and evening.

Season after season.

Creation gives us countless opportunities to pause in awe and praise the One who made it.

And perhaps that's something our hearts need when life feels especially dependent upon us.

You don't keep the planets moving.

You don't tell the sun when to rise.

You don't remind the moon to appear.

God does what only God can do.

Today, step outside.

Look at the sky.

Notice the light.

Watch the leaves.

And allow something you've seen a thousand times to remind you again:

God is still at work.
