A Prayer for Endurance in Suffering | Your Daily Prayer

Sometimes you pray, trust God, surround yourself with people who love you—and still find yourself carrying grief that changes you.

In today's Your Daily Prayer, Emily Rose Massey shares from deeply painful seasons in her own life, including the murder of her father and the loss of two babies through miscarriage.

Her Christian faith didn't make those experiences painless.

She still grieved.

She still struggled.

And she had to continually return to God's Word and allow other believers to help carry her through.

The Apostle Paul understood suffering too. Yet in 2 Corinthians 4:17, he wrote:

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison…”

Paul wasn't saying suffering feels light while we're experiencing it.

And this verse isn't a promise that every painful circumstance will quickly improve.

Paul was comparing even the tremendous suffering of this life with eternity in the presence of Christ.

Our suffering is temporary.

Jesus is eternal.

And for those who belong to Christ, pain will not have the final word.

So if grief comes like a tidal wave today, you don't have to pretend you're okay.

Grieve.

Ask for help.

Let other believers walk beside you.

Return to God's Word.

And keep your eyes on Jesus.

Endurance doesn't mean the pain doesn't hurt. It means pain doesn't get to take away your hope.
