How To Change Your Body

Have you ever thought about the fact that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit? How we take care of our body reflects what matters most to us and what we hold sacred. Our body is a gift, and how we treat it sends a message to the world.

How My Body Suffered Before I Started Taking Care of It as a Temple of God
Before I embraced this mindset, my body suffered from neglect, poor food choices, and unhealthy habits. It wasn’t until I realized my body was a temple that I began to treat it with the love and care it deserves. I discovered that true change starts with understanding the purpose behind your actions. When I made the connection between my faith and my health, everything changed.

Your Body is a Temple - 5 Powerful Steps to Care for It
1. Recognize Real Love
The key to everything starts with recognizing real love. Many people turn to food for comfort, companionship, or boredom, but food is not love. It doesn’t have arms to hug you or words to lift you up. When we seek emotional fulfillment in food, we're replacing true connection with temporary satisfaction. Instead, focus on nourishing yourself with love from relationships, faith, and purpose.

2. Understand What Real Food Is
Eating well doesn’t need to be complicated. Instead of relying on the internet to tell us what’s healthy, just focus on real food—food from nature. Visit your local grocery store, farmers' market, or garden. Choose food that doesn’t come in boxes or packages with complicated directions. If God made it and called it good, then it’s meant to nourish your body. Stick to whole, natural foods that fuel you.

3. Recognize Real Hunger
God has given us a natural signal for hunger, and it starts below the neck. True hunger is a physical sensation, not a craving triggered by our mind. When we’re eating based on what our head says (like when we see tempting foods), we often overeat or eat the wrong things. Pay attention to your body’s cues and eat when you’re genuinely hungry—not because something looks good.

4. Experience Real Satisfaction
Once we eat real food when we’re truly hungry, the next step is stopping when we’re satisfied. Satisfaction is not about overeating or feeling so full that you need to unbutton your jeans. It’s about enjoying the meal and knowing when to stop. Sometimes satisfaction comes before your plate is empty—and that’s okay. You don’t need to clear your plate just because it’s tradition. Listen to your body and stop when it’s satisfied, not stuffed.

5. Make a Real Commitment
Lastly, it’s about making a real commitment to treating your body as a temple. How we eat and care for our bodies shows the world what we value. When I began to eat mindfully and prioritize my health, it had a ripple effect on every area of my life. My relationships improved, I became a more patient and present parent, and I experienced a deeper sense of peace. Taking care of your body honors both God and the life He’s given you.
