7 things you need to know about @iheartchm maternity program:
1. You must be a CHM Gold member 300 days before estimated due date— join the gold program before trying to conceive.

2. Home births and birth centers are eligible to share— this is almost unheard of when it comes to traditional insurance. A big reason we choose CHM is because they support you to birth where you feel most comfortable.

3. There is a $1,500 person responsibility before maternity is eligible to share— if you call CHM within the first 3 months of your pregnancy you can ask to bring this down to $1,000. So let’s say your hospital birth costs $30,000... you would be responsible for paying the first $1,000 of your medical bills + your monthly CHM Gold contribution. . The remaining $28,500 would be eligible to share and be reimbursed.*

4. Most of my reimbursement checks came in the mail within 90 days or less. I was also able to submit my midwife’s bill ahead of time. They aim to send you the check for your birth expenses a month or so before your due date.

5. Your baby’s expenses are shared under the mother’s program for the first 3 months. This was amazing because I didn’t have to worry about getting our baby added to our membership during the thick of postpartum. We had an incident where we had to take our son to the doctor multiple times and the visits were reimbursed.*

6. Ask for a self-pay discount. Most medical offices offer a generous self-pay discount, some as high as 50%. The only bills I had to pay upfront were prescriptions and ultrasound appointments. I asked for a self-pay discount and then submitted them to be shared or to go towards my $1,000 personal responsibility.

7. Lactation consultations are typically eligible to be shared per the guidelines. I could not get my son to latch on my own, but thankfully I was able to have 3 visits to help him latch and all of them were reimbursed.*
