In Part 1 of this series, we observed the Old Testament giving clear scriptural evidence of the human soul being mortal. The same word for soul or life was consistently used to describe both animals and humans. Did Jesus change this teaching?
In a recent podcast we observed that the Biblical Definition of "Soul" is consistent throughout all scripture. The Hebrew word nephesh (Old Testament) and the Greek word psuche (New Testament) are both translated as "soul," meaning a living being or sentient creature.
Jesus and Paul both reaffirmed the mortal nature of the soul, emphasizing the physical and finite aspects of life. Scriptures such as Romans 6:23 tells us “The wages of sin is death” while eternal life is a gift from God through resurrection.
