We aren’t giving our kids Christmas gifts this year…
Unfortunately, saying something like this, feels extremely controversial.
Because in our culture, Christmas is primarily focused on the gifts.
And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE giving gifts. I think there is immense beauty in the gift giving tradition.
However, it is all too easy to focus on consumerism, and materialism during this season.
So when I felt the nudge to not do gifts this year, it surprised me how hard it was for me to be at peace with that decision.
Will we do gifts in the future? Absolutely.
But this year, I felt the Lord asking me to give this area of control and pride over to Him, and celebrate Christmas without gifts for once, and instead focus on intentional connection and gifts of quality time instead of another toy that will be forgotten about next year.
I’ve already seen a big shift in my attitude during this season, and I’m looking forward to less ‘things’ and more ‘memories’ 🎄❤️
