Building and Positioning Your Team and Motivating Them to Perform - Peter Saunders

As Jesus and the Apostles demonstrated, the key to advancing Christ’s Kingdom through both churches and parachurch organisations is through effective leadership. This Master Class will cover key principles in the following areas: developing yourself as a leader; establishing key priorities and roles; building and positioning a team; motivating and encouraging your staff and volunteers; delegation and training; setting your vision, mission, and strategy; communications and fundraising; building effective organisational systems and structures; avoiding and dealing with relationship failure.

This is part two in a five part Master Class series on 'How to Lead Fruitfully and Effectively'.

Pray for God to raise up workers and carefully select faithful, capable people for your team. Surround yourself with strong leaders, build an effective top team, and take time to choose the best individuals for key roles. Prioritise developing your team by recognising their unique gifts, encouraging them, and providing the training, support, and resources they need. Use reverse mentoring to gain insights, remove obstacles, and motivate your team by giving them credit for success while taking personal responsibility for failures.

Peter Saunders was born in New Zealand and originally trained as a General Surgeon, before serving with the Africa Inland Mission in Kenya and completing two years mission training at All Nations Christian College in the UK. Since 1992 he has worked in full-time Christian ministry first with Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF), a UK-based organisation with around 4,000 UK doctors and 1,000 medical student members, as both Head of Student Ministries (1992-1999) and CEO (2000-2018) and then as CEO of the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) which brings together over 100 national associations of Christian doctors and dentists. His work has involved leadership training, teaching evangelism, apologetics and ethics, medical mission, writing, editing and media work. He was a foundation member of the ELF steering group and was Director of the Care Not Killing Alliance (2006-2018). Peter is married to Kirsty and they have three sons, two married, and four grandchildren. They live in St Albans, UK and are members of Spicer Street Free Evangelical Church.
